February 5 is a key day in the fight to defeat Common Core in Michigan. There are TWO reasons to come to Lansing.
Reason #1: A joint committee will continue to hear testimony regarding the Smarter Balanced Assessments. Please call your state senator and representative and tell them to oppose Smarter Balanced and all Common Core testing. Call them daily and let them know that Michigan should create and control our assessments not lobbyists and private groups. The fight to defeat Common Core and assessments is NOT over in Michigan. The joint committee is scheduled for 2:30 PM at the Boji Tower. Public testimony will be allowed. They need to hear from you now and at the hearing.
Reason #2: Stop Common Core in Michigan has invited several guests to come to Lansing BEFORE the hearing to help you get informed about Common Core and assessments so you can speak up at the hearing later that same day. Please note: This is at a separate time and location from the hearing….
Time: 12:30 PM
Location: 810 Farnum Building, 125 W Allegan, Lansing MI 48933
Featured Speaker:
Dr. Terrence Moore, Professor at Hillsdale College. Dr. Moore recently published “The Story-Killers: A Common-Sense Case Against the Common Core.” http://www.amazon.com/
Michael Donnelly, Director of International Relations and Staff Attorney with Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) will also be speaking on Common Core and Assessments and their impact on educational freedom.
Representative Tom McMillin will give an update on the current status of Common Core and what is currently being discussed in the state legislature.
Other speakers will be announced as they are confirmed.
Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. It is time to tell Lansing, we’ve had enough of the experimenting. Parents and teachers not lawmakers and lobbyists should be deciding our children’s education.
The Smarter Balanced Assessment hearing is currently scheduled for 2:30 PM in the Boji Tower. Get educated and get active in the fight to retain control over Michigan standards and assessments.
