Urgent action is needed to stop Congress from passing what can only be described as an unprecedented assault on privacy and parental rights. This assault comes in the form of three bills floating around Congress, one of which – H.R. 4174 could be voted on as early as this Wednesday.
• H.R. 4174 will allow a national database containing data from every federal agency on every citizen
• H.R. 2434 would overturn the Higher Education Act’s ban on a federal student unit-record system and establish a system of lifelong tracking of individuals by the federal government
• H.R. 3157 which would amend the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), without restoring the FERPA privacy protections that were gutted by regulatory fiat in 2012.

“When I was growing up under Mao’s regime in China, the government used Household Registration and Personnel File system to keep track of its citizens from birth to death. My Middle School Student File documented everything: age, gender, parents, their jobs and political class, religion, siblings, home address, student grades, awards, punishments, politically incorrect speeches, bad behaviors, etc. Then this file (called Personnel File later) followed me to my high school, college, my first job, my future jobs, etc. All the government agencies and employers shared it, but my parents and I were never allowed to see the file.
Chinese citizens and their children are still tracked and data mined today. There is no privacy, you cannot live off the grid or disappear. The police state will find you or threat your family in order to get to you. Wonder why 1.3 Billion Chinese are so afraid of their own government. One person becomes a dissident, other family members can be at risk because the government controls your entire family’s data. Privacy is only something that Chinese could dream of.
Most of my extended family relatives today still live in China. I have to manage my fear in order to speak up and tell Americans the truth. I hate to see the country I love is becoming more like the country I left.”
