Momentum builds against the Common Core

Momentum is building against the Common Core and that has some people very nervous and worried, especially in  an election year.   Via Politico,

Tea party activists have been waging war for months against the Common Core academic standards. Now, in a coordinated show of muscle, Big Business is fighting back — and notching wins.

The urgent effort stems from a sense among supporters that this is a make-or-break moment for the Common Core, which is under siege all over the country.

A coalition including the Business Roundtable and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will launch a national advertising blitz Sunday targeted at Republicans skeptical about the standards. Spots promoting the Common Core will air on Fox News and other conservative outlets….
…The tea party might be loud, but the chamber spends tens of thousands on local campaigns each election year. Sanders wants lawmakers to remember that. “They are going to have to make a choice in terms of which constituency is going to be the most important to them,” he said. He said the chamber will have no qualms about dispensing its political funds to reward standards supporters, or punish dissenters. “My board is absolutely unanimous about this,” Sanders said.
But this isn’t just a Tea Party  issue. Parents and concerned citizens of all political ideologies are now standing up against the bully tactics of the Chamber or the Business Roundtable to buy off lawmakers and foist Common Core upon their children for their profit.   So much so that Michael Brickman of Fordham wrote an article for TownHall warning conservatives not to align with the left.
Conservatives who care about education reform should not be fooled into thinking they have found new allies on the topic of education policy. Many of these voices now opposing the Common Core or calling for a “pause in implementation” are merely doing what they have always done: seeking loopholes, delays, and excuses as to why our education system, which spends more per capita than any other industrialized nation, gets such lackluster results. Students in our communities are absolutely capable of meeting these higher standards, but they will not if we adults refuse to unite behind them.
This is not left-vs-right issue but a right-vs-wrong issue.  Common Core is wrong for our kids.  Period.  Don’t be fooled by these articles that seek to rewrite the narrative.  Momentum is building against the Common Core, keep it going.    Let every political candidate know that Common Core is your “litmus test” issue and if they are FOR the Common Core they are NOT getting your vote.
